Group A’s runaway leaders Fiorentina, extended their lead at the top to eight points after an impressive 3-0 home win over Siena.

The Viola’s task was made a lot easier after the visitors were reduced to nine men 18 minutes into the second half.

Second place Juventus, who lead the chasing pack, secured a 2-0 victory over Novara, as they clocked up their fourth consecutive win.

The Bianconeri’s local rivals, Torino slipped to third as they were defeated 1-0 away to Parma. Riccardo Cocuzza scored his third goal in as many games and his sixth of the season.

Empoli retained their hopes for a play off place with a 2-0 win against rock bottom Grosseto. While Genoa fell to sixth as they could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to Livorno. The Grifone haven’t won a game in their last six outings.

Meanwhile seventh placed Pro Verecelli and Sampdoria played out a goalless draw.

Cagliari’s poor form continued as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Spezia.

In Group B Atalanta were fortunate to scrape a 2-1 win over Padova to record their tenth straight win. Doudou Mangni picked up his fourth goal in five appearances.

Second place Chievo hammered Cittadella 5-0. The Flying Donkeys will be hoping to carry their momentum over to next week when they travel to Zingonia to face Atalanta in a proverbial six pointer.

Bologna’s 2-0 win over Hellas Verona was made all the sweeter as they were lifted into third place, when Inter could only manage a 1-1 draw with AC Milan in the derby match.

Cesena took advantage of the draw in the Milan derby with 2-1 away win at Brescia. The three points for the Cavallucci Marini means they climb to fifth in the table, sandwiched between Inter and Milan respectively.

Modena drew 2-2 with Sassuolo for their second draw on the bounce, they also haven’t won a game in their last nine attempts.

Ascoli completed the run of Group C draws as they threw away a two goal lead over Virtus Lanciano to end the game 2-2.
