Inter and Genoa drew 1-1 at the San Siro on Saturday lunchtime in Serie A, clawing their way back from being a goal down.

Striker Ciro Immobile scored the opener before Inter’s Esteban Cambiasso replied with the equaliser late on.

The first half proved to be an extremely tentative affair as both sides only provoked one save each from both goalkeepers.

Inter dominated possession but lacked the penetration to hurt Genoa.

Rodrigo Palacio came close to breaking the deadlock as he fired in a stinging volley from an acute Angle.  Sebastien Frey however stood strong and palmed the shot away, the rebound fell to Diego Milito who then fired his effort way over the bar.

Inter still lacked fluidity in their play though and as the game entered the final 15 minutes, Genoa were the side that looking more driven to grab a winner.

Therefore, it as no surprise when Immobile made it 0-1 to Genoa on the 77th minute.  He drifted wide in behind Javier Zanetti, drove at Andrea Ranocchia in a one-on-one situation and wrong footing the Italian centre-back before firing past Samir Handanovic.

The Inter goalkeeper will more than likely look back and feel he should haveve done more to prevent Immobile’s shot from going past him.  Gig Delneri screamed at his players to organise themselves to defend the one goal lead in the final 15 or so minutes.

The goal sparked Inter to life and they replied with a goal of their own on the 85th minute.  A high looping cross was headed home by Cambiasso who broke late into the box, heading past Frey low into the goalkeeper’s right-hand side from about 10 yards out.  The Argentinean grabbed the ball from the net and rushed back to the centre circle.

The home side were now swarming all over Genoa as they the Grifoni were all over the place at the back.

Marko Livaja was responsible one of the sitters of the season as he struck Milito’s pass across goal onto the post from only three yards out, having an empty net to pass into.  An off balance Cambiasso put the rebound wide with his right-foot but the Argentinian midfield could not believe his team-mate had just missed such a gaping opportunity.

Five minutes of injury time were added but and pressure continued but Inter could not create another chance as clear cut as the one Livaja had missed, the match finishing 1-1.
