A late double from Napoli saved them from dropping two points at the Montepaschi on Saturday against Napoli.

They remain in fifth following late goals from Christian Maggio and Edinson Cavani that secured all three points.

Lorenzo Insigne had an early effort on goal that flashed wide of the upright before Cavani failed to find the net minutes later too.

With little or no other chances to speak of in a quiet opening half, the Partenopei’s Alessandro Gamberini drove towards goal but his strike was saved by Gianluca Pegolo.

They did come into the contest more in the second half though and Pegolo was again on hand to prevent Marek Hamsik this time with a good stop.

Juan Zuniga and Valon Behrami then had attempts thwarted before a late double saved the Vesuviani.

Firstly, Hamsik rolled the ball across goal for Maggio to tap the ball home easily with five minutes remaining to put his side ahead.

Following that, substitute Goran Pandev was brought down inside the box and Cavani stepped up to convert from the penalty spot.

Former Napoli man Emanuele Calaio then saw red for the home side in the closing stages.
