Cagliari bested Genoa in an exciting encounter in Sardinia during Sunday’s Serie A action by battling back from a goal down to win.

Eros Pisano had put the Grifoni ahead before strikes from Marco Sau and Daniele Conti ensured Ivo Pulga’s men won all the points.

The away side almost went ahead early when in-form Marco Borriello found half a yard but his shot on goal was well saved.

The Grifoni looked excellent on the counter attack and had further efforts on the break from both Borriello and Andrea Bertolacci well saved by Vlada Avramov.

Neither side could create any true scoring chances though with the best the side who were kitted out in their famous Rossoblu colours could manage was an effort on goal towards the end of the half from Conti which Sebastien Frey dealt with well.

Minutes after the restart, there was a breakthrough at last though after a first half without much incident when Bertolacci found space to cross and his flighted ball was headed home by Pisano for a priceless lead that the Grifoni deserved.

However, not long afterwards, Radja Nainggolan did brilliantly to set up Sau and he made no mistake to keep up his rich vein of form by beating Frey.

Danilo Avlear and Sau both went close again for the home side who it looked as though would have to settle for a draw before Conti pounced to head home with eight minutes to go to secure the victory.

Felipe Seymour saw red for Genoa minutes later to compound Gigi Del Neri’s misery.
