Several members of Genoa’s playing squad have been fined following an unauthorised a night out last Thursday, a club statement has confirmed.

It is thought that the unnamed players were out celebrating Antonio Floro Flores’ return to the club until 11pm, an act which broke the club’s internal code leaving fans furious, especially after they lost a crucial match against fellow relegation strugglers Cagliari on Sunday.

The statement read: “Genoa Cfc announce that following the investigation into the violation of the internal code by its players in a dinner last Thursday night, these players have been punished.”

“The club confirms the money from the fines will be given to the family of Matteo, a child in need of medical care, as well as other charitable causes.

“The members of the squad also wish to apologise to the club and its supporters for their behaviour, assuring that in future incidents of this nature will not happen again.”

The Rossoblu are 18th in Serie A with 17 points and just four wins from 20 fixtures.
