Siena coach Beppe Iachini has admitted that it will be “a very emotional moment” when his Siena side face his former employers Sampdoria today.

Iachini took charge of a struggling Blucerchiati during their Serie B campaign last season, which saw them in mid-table.

But Iachini was quick to turn things around at Sampdoria, and the fans saw their team make a remarkable recovery with a good run of results to win promotion in the play-offs.

Despite the success that Iachini had achieved at the club, the Sampdoria board decided against keeping Beppe Iachini and replaced him with Ciro Ferrara.

Iachini was appointed coach at Siena over Christmas, and has already brought a familiar face to his side in Nicola Pozzi.

“Meeting Sampdoria will certainly be a very emotional moment for me, but I am the Coach of Siena and will be concentrated only on my team,” said Iachini.

“Despite the negative results, we are improving in terms of performance, character and team spirit. We must honour the shirt and give our all to get as many points as possible.

“In these three games we have always been a team, right from the first minute. Now we must eliminate those errors that have compromised our matches recently.

“We’ve got to shake off this climate of negativity and can only do that by working hard on the field to earn those results that help the fans stick by us.”

Siena sold Emanuele Calaiò to Napoli and Marcelo Larrondo joins Fiorentina on loan, and brought in Sampdoria striker Nicola Pozzi on Friday.

“Pozzi is a player of great quality and we’ll try to have him ready as soon as possible, because he can really help us. He has always scored throughout his career and can be an important buy in a difficult marketplace.”
