Speaking to local radio, Napoli’s Giandomenico Mesto has spoken of the great leadership qualities of captain Paolo Cannavaro and how pleased the club are to have him back.

The 31-year-old had been banned for six months for failing to report match fixing attempts but has since had that suspension lifted.

“Who is our leader? I think it is Paolo Cannavaro,” he told Radio Marte. “He represents the city, the shirt and the fans.

“He embodies the Neopolitan spirit and guides all of us with his human virtues as well as his technical skills. He is a talented player who puts everything on the line for the team.

“He always helps his teammates and the harmony this brings makes a great difference.”

This season, the former Genoa man has made 11 appearances and scored once and assisted once as the Partenopei aim to fight on both European and domestic fronts.
