Palermo’s Primavera team moved into fourth place in the Group C table after a 4-2 win over Vicenza at the weekend but this is not the real story that came out of the contest.

During the encounter in Sicily, Palermo were responsible for a showing of remarkable fair play when they essentially gave a goal back to the Berici with a very sporting gesture.

After 20 minutes of play, Vicenza put the ball out after an injury to a Rosanero player and upon returning the ball to their opponents, Palermo’s Davide Petermann inadvertently hit the back of the net in doing so.

The youth side’s immediate response after kick off was to stop playing and allowing Michele Cavion to go through and put the ball in the back of the net and restore the balance in the contest.

Palermo retook the lead before the break and went on to win the contest with a final score of 4-2 but both coaches after the game praised the sportsmanship of the Palermo players for such an act.

An excellent gesture was perhaps made all the more commendable due to the fact that it was carried out by a squad of young players who took it upon themselves to showcase such fair play.
