Inter and Roma played to a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night.

Francesco Totti broke the deadlock on 22 minutes off a penalty, but Rodrigo Palacio equalised before the half time whistle.

Roma created the first quality attack of the match off a quick counter through Michael Bradley. He found Erik Lamela, who drove a cross into the box to a wide open Pablo Osvaldo, but he was a tad late on the heading attempt.

Some controversy in the 20th minute when Bradley appeared to have leaped over Andrea Ranocchia in the box, but was still awarded a penalty. Totti buried it a short while later to make it 1-0 for the hosts.

A short while later, Alessandro Florenzi nailed a right footed shot from outside the area on a volley, but it whistled wide of Samir Handanovic’s post.

The Giallorossi pressure kept coming as Bradley picked out Lamela and drove it on goal from the corner of the area, but it was high and wide.

Marco Livaja nearly tied it up for Inter with some lovely skill, but the follow-up rolled past the far post.

Osvaldo then almost doubled the lead thanks to a Florenzi assist, but the effort on the left side of the box hit the side netting.

The Nerazzurri’s best chance of the half came just before the whistle when Fredy Guarin connected with a header off a free kick, he managed to beat Mauro Goicoechea, but not Marquinhos and Federico Balzaretti, who cleared it off the line.

Palacio finally delivered an Inter goal that they desperately searched for seconds before halftime. Guarin ran out of room on the byline, but somehow got the ball to the feet of Palacio, and tapped it in from close range for the 1-1 tally.

The first opportunity of the second half arrived through Ivan Piris. He had the ball on the flank, cut it back onto his left foot, but the blistering hit was right at Handanovic.

Piris again made a great move on the right side and received a pass, but hammered it wide of the near post. A better chance arrived on 80 minutes when he made a similar run, but he hit it high.

Roma kept coming in the latter stages, this time Lamela had a go from distance, but Samir Handanovic displayed his reflexes to keep the ball out and preserve a point for his team.
