Sampdoria were beaten by Siena 1-0 at the Stadio Franchi on Sunday afternoon in Serie A.

The home side took the lead through Erjon Bogdani in the second half and held on to grab three vital points as they look to escape from the relegation zone.

In a first half that was void of chances it was Siena who seemed the most likely to make something happen.

Matteo Rubin on the left for the home side was their most dynamic player, putting in a few dangerous crosses. Meanwhile Mauro Icardi was looking lively for the visitors, though he was starved of service from his midfielders.

After the break Sampdoria started the brighter but Siena quickly regained control of the match.

Eder and Icardi were completely isolated upfront for Samp and every time they did touch the ball, they soon lost it as support from the midfield was not forthcoming.

It wasn’t until just after the hour mark that Pegolo was tested in the Siena goal, as Andrea Poli’s side footed shot from the edge of the area was pushed away by the goalkeeper.

But it was Siena who took the lead through Bogdani who rose above De Silvestre to head home Sestu’s cross.

Bogdani had another chance when he was put through on goal, but a combination of Gastaldello and Romero were enough to deny the Albanian.

Samp were still struggling to create anything, but Roberto Soriano did on the end of a close range cross, but he couldn’t direct his shot towards goal.

Then in the final moments of the match Delio Rossi’s men did throw everything at the Robur, but in the end they couldn’t find the back of the net.
