A group of Sampdoria ultras, the Ultras Tito Cucchiaroni of the Curva Sud, have reacted to the death of club president Riccardo Garrone by writing an open letter to him on their website.

They said they wanted the message to be intimate and personal and so wrote the note and posted online.

In it they said that they, when translated as best as possible, “were struck by his compassion and caring for the club and that they regretted not meaning on regular intervals” and that they knew “everything that you did has been for a good relationship with the club and we have always agreed on this.”

The statement also went on to say that “now that you are gone, we believe it is our duty to carry on the work that you have stubbornly done several times and acknowledge that Sampdoria is still where it is thanks to the work of President Riccardo Garrone.”

Garrone died on Monday after a long battle with illness.
