Bologna drew 1-1 with Siena at the Renato Dall’Ara in Serie A action Sunday afternoon.

The visitors snatched a surprise lead against the run of play through Innocent Emeghara on 33 minutes, but the Rossoblu soon equalised though Panagiotis Kone to complete the scoring for the day in the first half.

Alberto Gilardino fired wide for the hosts inside the opening minute, whilst Alessandro Diamanti blazed over the bar from distance.

Chances were at a premium in the early stages of the match, but Bologna nearly grabbed the lead on 21 minutes when Gilardino just failed to get on the end of Diamanti’s tantalizing free-kick.

Gianluca Pegolo did well to deny Gilardino at close range after the veteran Italian was played through by Diego Perez as the Rossoblu continued to dominate possession.

Soon after the former Milan man had the ball in the back of the net after Marco Motta had knocked down a dangerous cross in the area, but the goal was disallowed as the flag had been raised.

The hosts were soon made to pay despite controlling the game, as Siena snatched the lead on 33 minutes when Emeghara turned in a header from the centre of the box from an Alessio Sestu cross.

The Nigerian-born Swiss soon menaced again from a similar position, but this time went wide of the mark on the volley.

It didn’t take long for Bologna to hit back, however, as Kone broke away from his marker to stab home from a sumptuous Diamanti free-kick.

Stefano Pioli replaced Motta with young striker Manolo Gabbiadini at halftime in a bid to provide his side with increased offensive firepower for the second period.

After the restart, Rosina had his shot from distance blocked away, whilst substitute Gabbiadini went just wide of the target from outside the area.

Angelo picked up a knock for Siena and was forced from the pitch, making way for Nicola Belmonte.

Diamanti cut inside from the flank to blast wide of the near post, embarrassing Jorge Teixeira on the way with a skillful nutmeg to break free.

Agra replaced Sestu for Robur, as Diamanti and Gabbiadini each unsuccessfully tried their hand from distance.

Grygory Garics came on for Panagiotis Kone as Bologna began to dominate time on the ball with the scores still level and time winding down.

Two more changes took place deep in injury time, with Rosina making way for Erjon Bogdani for the visitors, and Davide Moscardelli coming on for Diamanti on the other side.

Neither side could find a winner as the clock reached full time as the squads split the points despite long periods of dominance by Bologna.
