Speaking after Cagliari’s 4-2 victory over Roma on Friday night, striker Marco Sau told Sky Sports Italia how pleased he was with the result after his side left the capital with all three points.

“We played a great game against a very strong team here tonight”, he said, explaining that Cagliari were “careful with their high defensive line and then we tried to beat them on the counter-attack”.

Sau himself scored Cagliari’s third goal of the match, and his eighth of the season, heading home early in the second half.

Cagliari assistant manager Diego Lopez added how the team “had put their heart into this match, played a very smart game, were brilliant on the counter and certainly deserved the three points”.

They took an early lead, but found themselves pegged back before half time, before the Rossoblu ran away with the game, scoring three times without reply in the second half before Roma scored again late on.

Cagliari’s win, their fourth game unbeaten, saw them rise to 13th in the table before they host Milan next weekend, while Roma remain ninth, despite Francesco Totti’s 223rd Serie A goal, and are without a win in 2013.
