Cagliari have released an open letter apologising for the constant controversy surrounding the Is Arenas.

The Quartu Sant’Elena based venue was constructed in haste over the summer months as the Isolani chose to abandon the Stadio Sant’Elia, and has since been the subject of constant security check failures that have compromised home matches.

The Sardinians will take on Torino at the weekend behind closed doors, whilst President Massimo Cellino has been placed under arrest for allegedly fraudulently constructing the stadium.

“Dear season ticket holders, we are again here to apologise once more for a situation that is at the very least incomprehensible,” the letter begins.

“Cagliari have done everything to give a stadium to its fans, after the Stadio Sant’Elia was ruled unusable for two of its four sectors.

“Our efforts to do things quickly and well, however, were not sufficient to resolve the stadium problem and allow all of you fans to see our games.

“You season ticket holders have been particularly affected by this situation that over the last few days has become dramatic for our president.

“It is difficult to explain this dance that has developed around the Is Arenas, which one day is considered suitable to host games and the next is not. It has now become evident to everyone that Cagliari cannot be responsible for all of this.

“All we can do is make two promises. First, we will work night and day to resolve the Is Arenas issue in time for the next home game against Sampdoria.

“Second, we’ll find a way to reward those season ticket holders whose only crime was loving Cagliari. Thank you for your understanding and your love for Cagliari.”
