Former Roma captain Giuseppe Giannini has admitted to disappointment at not being considered as a potential replacement for Zdenek Zeman.

The Czech tactician was deposed last weekend after a series of poor results in Serie A, with technical coach Aurelio Andreazzoli ascending to the managerial post.

“I’m disappointed,” Giannini said to Centro Suono Sport. “It seems that the less you have to do with the history of Roma, the more you are considered.

“With all due respect for the likes of [Andreazzoli assistant Roberto] Muzzi and Christian Panucci, why is my name never taken into account? I just want one reason.

“I have experiences that I don’t think Muzzi and Andreazzoli have…”

Giannini played for the Giallorossi for 15 seasons, having come up through the club’s youth academy.

His most recent adventure as a coach came with Grosseto in Serie B, whilst he has also managed Foggia, Gallipoli, Verona, and Sambenedettese among others.

“I would play with a three-man defence,” the 48 year-old said when asked how he would align Roma tactically.

“In midfield I’d have Daniele De Rossi and Miralem Pjanic in the middle, with Alessandro Florenzi on the right, Dodo or Federico Balzaretti on the left. Up front, I’d leave the three that are there already.

“It wouldn’t have been easy, but I would have worked on a 3-4-3. Maybe I would have even put De Rossi in defence.

“I’m at a good level, I would have worked for free.”
