Palermo have sacked Gian Piero Gasperini following the 2-1 defeat against Atalanta over the weekend, reports surfacing in Italy suggest.

Transfer chief Pietro Lo Monaco is also rumored to leave the club, but his final departure will depend on his performance as the interim coach.

Should Giorgio Perinetti be re-appointed as the club’s director general by President Maurizio Zamparini, Alberto Malesani is expected to permanently take over the coaching role.

The ex-Genoa and Inter tactician replaced Giuseppe Sannino after the week three draw at Cagliari, and managed to record three wins, seven draws and ten defeats during his at the Renzo Barbera.

The Sicilian side are at the bottom of the table, with 17 points in 23 games.
