Palermo are considering sacking manager Gian Piero Gasperini after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Atalanta with sporting director Pietro Lo Monaco’s job also reportedly on the line.

“I will take the night to reflect in order to make a decision that is right for the betterment of the club,” club president Maurizio Zamparini told the club’s official website.

“Despite being aware of the situation the club is currently in, I am certain we have a squad that is strong enough to achieve salvation.”

Since hiring Gasperini in September to replace Giuseppe Sannino, the club has struggled to obtain results, winning only three of the past 20 matches, and as a result of Sunday’s loss, the Sicilians are now joint bottom with a Siena side that is saddled with a six point penalty.

Reports out of Italy suggest that the two frontrunners for the possible vacancy are former Catania boss Pasquale Marino and ex-Lazio and Napoli manager Edoardo Reja.

The club should reach a decision regarding Gasperini’s position with the club within the next one to two days.

No-one from the club addressed the media after the match.
