Genoa stunned Lazio at the Marassi in Serie A in one of the Sunday afternoon kick-offs by scoring a last second winner to win 3-2.

Davide Ballardini’s revitalised side went ahead thanks to two early goals from Marco Borriello and Andrea Bertolacci both of whom have Roma connections before Sergio Floccari and Stefano Mauri pulled Lazio level but with the final kick, Marco Rigoni won it for the Rossoblu.

The former Roma striker Borriello was a nuisance throughout and gave Genoa the lead after 16 minutes when he capitalised on a lack of decisiveness in the away defence and crashed the ball powerfully home from close range.

Just over five minutes later, that lead was doubled when fellow ex-Giallorossi man Bertolacci finished off a nice flowing move by placing the ball home from 25 yards expertly.

Floccari was inches away from nodding home a Michael Ciani cross but that was the closest his team came to pulling one back before the break.

They did get themselves back in it 10 minutes after the interval though when Thomas Manfredini was caught napping and Floccari punished him by hooking home Senad Lulic’s pass.

With 15 minutes remaining, Lazio should have equalised when Lorik Cana did well to set up Lulic whose shot was parried into the path of Abdoulay Konko who somehow failed to hit the back of the net.

However, minutes later they did get that equaliser when hero of earlier in the game Borriello was penalised for holding Cana in the box and Mauri sent Sebastien Frey the wrong way from the spot to level.

Genoa came so close in the final minutes to retaking the lead but Juraj Kucka’s looping header clipped the top of the crossbar and out.

Federico Marchetti made an unbelievable stop in injury time to surely seal a point for his side but with seconds left, Rigoni rose to head past him and secure a thrilling win that moves Genoa out of the relegation zone.
