Napoli were defeated 3-0 by Viktoria Plzen at the Stadio San Paolo in the Europa League.

The Partenopei went down to a first half goal from Vladimir Darida before Frantisek Rajtoral made it two in the second half, then Stanislav Tecl put the icing on the cake in time added on.

Early on in the game Napoli did go close through Goran Pandev, who saw his shot tipper over the bar.

Plzen though did start to edge their way into the game before Darida smashed home from the edge of the area. His shot rose into the top corner with Morgan De Sanctis left with no chance.

The away side continued to look dangerous and held onto the ball well.

Cavani went close ten minutes after the restart as his header went inches wide at the back post.

Walter Mazzarri’s men then started to up the pressure on their opponents, with Pandev firing wide and Marek Hamsik having more of an affect on the match.

But against the run of play Plzen thought they had made it two thanks to Rajtoral but the assistant referee flagged for offside even though replays suggested otherwise.

Soon after Hamsik capitalised on some slack defending from Plzen but with the goal gaping he smashed the ball wide.

However, in an inevitable twist of fate Rajtoral did get on the scoresheet, pouncing on an error from Zuniga, who failed to clear a cross, thus the ball dropped to the Czech and he poked it home from close range.

And to make matters worse for the home side Plzen got a third through Tecl. He beat the offside trap and cooly finished past De Sanctis to surely end any hopes Napoli have of progressing in the tournament.
