AC Milan are looking to strengthen between the posts in the summer and have expressed an interest in signing Newcastle United’s Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul.

With club vice-captain Christian Abbiati being 35 years old now, Krul, is seen as in ideal candidate to take over the position.

The Dutchmen has already played over 100 first team games despite being young at 24. Since making his Newcastle debut in 2009, he has been first choice goalkeeper for the Premier League side for the last two seasons.

English newspaper The Mirror have reported that Mauro Tassotti’s has watched the player in person, and the Milan assistant confirmed his club’s interest in bringing Krul to Milan.

Krul’s contract at Newcastle runs until 2017, so he would command a sizeable fee from Milan should they wish to bring him in this summer. The Rossoneri’s current goalkeeping options are Abbiati, Marco Amelia and Brazilian Gabriel, though the latter has yet to make an appearance for the club.

Highly rated Krul has played five times for the Netherlands, and was in the Dutch squad for Euro 2012. He has been with Newcastle since they signed him from hometown club ADO Den Haag in 2005. He was a member of the victorious Holland U21 squad in UEFA’s 2007 Under 21 European Championship.
