Genoa are facing an injury crisis ahead of their relegation six pointer with Siena on March 30.

The club, who are one point ahead of eighteenth place Siena, already have a long list of injured players including Marco Borriello, Sebestien Frey, Matuzalem, Ruben Olivera and Thomas Manfredini.

However, that list has grown once more as Peruvian international Juan Manual Vargas has been sent back to Italy from national team duty after picking up a fresh knock.

“The last few days have been useful in the recovery process for players like Borriello, Frey and Matuzalem, who are close to coming back to full training with the group,” coach Davide Ballardini told the Genoa website.

“Thomas Manfredini and Ruben Olivera are also recovering from their injuries. Tactical training is complicated, because so many are away on international duty, but everyone worked hard and stayed focused.

“I know that I have a group of professionals and the spirit of this team makes me optimistic for Genoa.”

Ballardini was able to haul Genoa out of the relegation zone after replacing Luigi Delneri in January, gaining five straight results. However, the club have dropped their last three matches and once again have been submerged in a relegation fight.
