Roma striker Francesco Totti is today being linked with a shock return to the Italy side ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

He also looks set to net a new deal with the Giallorossi it is being reported in Corriere dello Sport as he looks to beat Silvio Piola’s all-time Serie A scoring record.

Former coach Carlo Mazzone told Tuttosport today that “I believe that Totti would do well at the World Cup” while Gazzetta dello Sport are also claiming that he could be back for another go at the Jules Rimet trophy.

‘Er Pupone’ of course won the trophy in 2006 despite an injury scare just months before and netted a penalty against Australia en route to the victory.

With regards to the new contract, it is believed that the captain himself wants a two-year extension while the club would prefer him to sign a yearly rolling deal.
