AC Milan’s Mathieu Flamini played both hero and villan in the Rossoneri’s 1-1 draw with Napoli in Sunday night’s showdown of second versus third.

The Frenchman got Milan off on the right foot with a goal just after the 29 minute mark. Napoli did equalise only a few minutes later, however.

Flamini, who has been linked with a move to Marseille, had mixed emotions following the match.

“I’m happy for the goal, but it’s a shame we did not win,” Flamini told Sky. “We needed the victory to reach for second place.

As both teams looked for the goal that would give them all three points, Flamini was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Napoli’s Juan Zuniga, forcing the Rossoneri to play the last 18 minutes of the game with 10 men.

“My expulsion? I came hard on Zuniga, I really want to show my quality.

“I have heard so many unjust criticisms, now I want to give my best on the field and show I deserve to be with the Rossoneri.”

Flamini has only played 14 times for Milan this season after originally being released by the club last summer. However, Milan and Flamini were able to come to terms a few weeks later which allowed him to stay with the San Siro outfit.
