Corinthians director of sport Edu Gaspar has recently made statements in connection to the club’s 24-year-old midfielder and Inter transfer target Paulinho about the Brazilian’s possibility of a move to Italy.

Inter had stated they would pay up to €18 million for the attacking midfielder during the January mercato as a replacement for Wesley Sneijder and Philippe Countinho. However, the move fell through.

Now Gaspar has come out to fan the flames of a possible bidding war for the player as English Premier League side Chelsea have also expressed their interest in the midfielder.

“Inter and Chelsea still want to Paulinho?” Gaspar said in a statement provided by FCInterNews.it. “We know we have to be very careful, because there are several opportunities from the market and all should be checked.

“Corinthians want to maintain a strong team, quality first. We will be prepared in case of major deals for our players, without being caught by surprise.

“If the proposal comes, we will remain attentive to the market and evaluate everything. ”

Paulinho has 12 goals and three assists in 46 games in all competitions for Corinthians in 2012/13.
