Inter have publicly stated their desire to sign Sampdoria youngster Mauro Icardi in the offseason.

Icardi, who started for Sampdoria in their rescheduled match against the Nerazzurri on Wednesday, has long been rumoured to be a target for the Milan club.

Piero Ausilio, Inter’s sporting director, made it public knowledge that the club is interested in signing the young Argentine striker.

“Yes, we like him, there’s no point denying the fact we want Icardi,” Ausilio admitted to Sky Sport Italia before the kick-off between the two clubs.

“Sampdoria know this, but we decided to talk about it at the end of the season, as we will wait to see if all the parties achieve their objectives.”

“We will not be meeting with Sampdoria directors today, as straight after the game we are returning to Milan.”

Inter’s summer transfer strategy reportedly rests on whether or not the Nerazzurri qualify for next seasons edition of the Champions League.
