Inter captain Javier Zanetti has stated he will not retire after tearing his Achilles tendon during the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 defeat away to Palermo on Sunday.

The Inter legend limped off after 17 minutes and while the initial diagnosis is a tear, the full extent of the injury will not be known until more tests are conducted.

“I don’t know if I was touched but at a certain point I felt a pull. A really strong pain,” he told Mediaset Premium.

“I will overcome this.”

The 39-year-old was wearing the captain’s armband that he shared with Pope Francis during a private meeting between the two earlier this week. It had the Inter, Argentina, Italy and Vatican City flags stitched onto it.
