Genoa defender Thomas Manfredini praised his side’s performance, as they took an important three points in the fight for safety, beating Chievo 1-0 at the Stadio Bentegodi Sunday afternoon.

A Marco Borriello header was enough for the Rossoblu to secure the points, in a match that Mandredini describes as ‘character and big heart.’

“This is how games are won, with a performance of great character,” he told Radio Nostalgia.

“We showed good football character and a very big heart.

“The win was crucial and to beat Chievo, because Palermo won, Siena lost and we got an important victory.

“It’s never over, next we face Pescara, and we have to win.”

Genoa currently sit 18th in the Serie A standings, on 32 points with fours games remaining. The Ligurian club are tied with 17 place Palermo, but sit in the relegation zone thanks to an inferior goal difference.

This is the second straight season Genoa have fought relegation, and much like last year, the club will not know their fate until the final weekend of the season.
