Italy coach Cesare Prandelli is convinced that financial restraints can not be blamed for the lack of Italian teams not progressing on in the European club competitions.

At this stage of the season no Serie A sides are left in the Champions League or the Europa League, after all were knocked out during the competitions.

Prandelli spoke out today, stating that all Italian outfits need to work harder if they are to progress in Europe and can do this without the funds.

“We have to work hard,” Prandelli stated. “When there is no money to spend then you have to have ideas.

“The results have shown that we need to roll up our sleeves and work hard, especially when it comes to intensity.

“The intensity of the game in Europe is not the same as the one we see in Italy. We have to work harder in that area, even in training.”
