Real Madrid have reportedly made a €25 million (£21 million) bid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.

Verratti, 20, left Italian side Pescara for the French capital in a €12 million (£10 million) deal at the end of last season.

The midfielder has made a total of 37 appearances for PSG in all competitions this season including four for the Italian national side since 2012. The 20-year-old has put some impressive displays this season, averaging a pass accuracy of 87%.

SportItalia are claiming that Real Madrid have stepped-up their pursuit of Verratti and have even submitted an early €25m bid. However, the Spanish giants may have to face competition from Manchester United for his signature.

Madrid’s position to sign Verratti might be strengthened if reports of Carlo Ancelotti’s future arrival at the Bernabeu are to be believed.

Verratti’s agent Donato Di Campli has recently said that no club in Italy can afford his client and that he discouraged him from joining Napoli last summer.
