Cagliari defeated Lazio 1-0 at the Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste on Sunday evening.

Daniele Dessena gave the home side victory with his second half goal, though, it must be said, the match was not the most enthralling of Serie A’s final round.

The away side took control of the match early on, but it was Federico Marchetti who was called into action first. The Lazio goalkeeper saving well to his right from a dipping Thiago Ribero shot.

Libor Kozak had the Biancocelesti’s first opportunity at goal, but his header was straight at Vlada Avramov. Antonio Candreva also had a 20-yard shot saved by the Isolani ‘keeper.

Thiago Ribero was the Rossoblu’s main goal threat, but he failed to test Marchetti regularly enough, though, was linking well with Victor Ibarbo.

Then just before the end of the first half, Avelar went on a great run and his shot surprised Marchetti somewhat, but the shot went wide.

After the break the game was no more exciting in the opening exchanges, though, Cagliari did look the more likely.

Candreva was trying his best to create something for Lazio, but one shot was easily saved by Avramov, while a dangerous cross had no one attacking the ball.

Sergio Floaccari had a header go just wide, while Lorik Cana smashed a long range shot into the palms of Avramov.

But then with 15 minutes left of the match a Dessena header from an Andrea Cossu cross saw the home side take the lead.

Lazio though had no answer for that blow and looked to have ran out of steam and the home side took home all three points.
