Gigi Delneri, who was sacked as the Genoa coach in January, could be on his way back to the club this summer Grifone president Enrico Preziosi has said.

Davide Ballardini replaced Delneri earlier this season and kept the club in the top flight, but it is possible the former Juventus man could lead the team once again.

“I’m thinking about Del Neri,” Preziosi told the press.

“He’s still contracted to us for another year, while Ballardini isn’t.

“Del Neri is a good coach, especially when he is allowed to work with a squad from the start of the season.”

The 62-year-old tactician had a disastrous run of results with the Ligurian side, collecting just eight points from his 13 games while in charge, but he still picks up his €1.5 million a season wage.
