Italy Under-21 preliminary squad named for upcoming European Championship

Italy Under-21 coach Devis Mangia has announced his initial 40-man squad for the forthcoming European Championship in June.

The tournament takes place in Israel from June 5-18.

The final squad will be trimmed to a final squad comprising of 23 players by May 27.

Among the preliminary selections are Stephan El Shaarawy of AC Milan and his teammate Mattia De Sciglio, both of whom have been capped by the senior squad this season.

Joining them are Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti and former Inter full-back Davide Santon.

Senior Azzurri manager Cesare Prandelli could play a part in Mangia’s final selection if he decides to call up members of the Under-21 squad to the senior team for the Confederations Cup in Brazil which runs from June 15-30.
