Nicola Legrottaglie has extended his contract with Catania until 2014 and expressed an interest to stay at the club, either as a coach or director.

The 36-year-old centre-back put pen to paper today on a deal holding him to the Elefantini until June 30 2014.

Legrottaglie spoke after the signing about his desire to stay on after his playing career, wanting to venture into coaching or being a director at Catania if the club allow him to do so.

“I am very happy with this year,” he told TMW.

“We surpassed ourselves and on a personal level I achieved two records in two years with Catania.

“I’m the highest-scoring Catania defender ever and the most prolific defender still in activity.

“After 2014 I will try to evaluate things one year at a time. Considering the way I feel now, I think I could still continue playing well.

“I have been clear with the club that as long as I am a player, I will continue to focus on the field and play every game that I can.

“We’ll see about the future, but I’d like to be a director or a Coach. The doors are open and if someone, hopefully Catania, will allow me to work with my principles then I’d be happy to transmit them to others.”
