Palermo were beaten 3-1 at home by Parma in their Serie A send off on Sunday night.

Three fantastic first half goals from Massimo Gobbi, Jaime Valdes and Ishak Belfodil ensured Palermo would not bid arrivederci to Serie A on a positive note although Fabricio Miccoli did say goodbye with a typically wonderful goal.

Antonio Mirante saved well early on as Palermo started brightly before Abel Hernandez’s low shot ended up the wrong side of the post before Francesco Benussi denied Amauri’s header at the other end.

However, following their early promise, the hosts quickly crumbled through some quickfire goals from Roberto Donadoni’s men.

Following a free kick into the Palermo penalty area as half time approached, the ball broke to Gobbi on the edge of the area and he unleashed a fantastic volley into the top corner for his first goal of the season.

Minutes later, an equally classy strike to get the traveling Crociati fans out of their seats followed when Valdes let fly with a deft curling effort following a swift Gialloblu counter attack to double his side’s lead before the break.

They were not done there though and made it 3-0 before a stop was called, Belfodil shrugged off the attentions of two defenders before firing past Benussi in the Rosanero goal.

After the break, during what looks to be his final performance for the club, Fabricio Miccoli struck an effort against the post proving that it was simply not to be their night.

For the captain though, he would get a send off in style though by curling home an outrageous free kick and ensuring that he at least would bow out with a goal.
