Giuseppe Sannino PalermoPalermo general manager Giorgio Perinetti has commented on the circulating reports which claim coach Giuseppe Sannino wants to leave the club.

The 56-year-old tactician apparently spoke to Rosanero president Maurizio Zamparini about his desire to quit the club, and reportedly cited interest shown from other clubs, such as Hellas Verona and Genoa, as a reason.

Perinetti addressed the situation and the problems it can bring, while mentioning the club’s lasting appeal to other coaches, in case Sannino needs to be replaced.

“The situation is clear, Sannino has another year left on his contract, but there are some problems,” said the general manager.

“Does he want to leave? Many are writing that, so… We will meet up again and discuss matters on Monday.

“It is a very delicate moment, because obviously it is going to create problems for us. We absolutely cannot leave the bench empty.

“We have no reason to let Sannino go and Zamparini has always said he’d want to focus on him even if we went into Serie B.

“I can say Palermo are an important club and between offers and suggestions we have a list of 16 potential coaches. That means that despite the relegation, Palermo still represents a place everyone wants to work in.”

Giuseppe Sannino was named Palermo’s coach at the beginning of the 2012-2013 season, then fired after a few games, and recently rehired for the closing months of the campaign.
