Franco-BaldiniTottenham Hotspur have confirmed former Roma director general Franco Baldini as their new technical director.

Baldini has experience in numerous high-profile backroom roles, having previously served as Fabio Capello’s assistant manager with Real Madrid and the England national side.

He also enjoyed two spells as Roma’s director general, the second of which ended in early June when the two parties parted by mutual consent, leaving the 52-year-old free to join Tottenham Hotspur.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy described Baldini as being “extremely well respected in the industry, possessing an extensive knowledge of players around the world.”

Levy went on to say that the Italian will “strengthen our football management team, particularly in the field of recruitment.”

Baldini presided over a turbulent time at Roma that coincided with the revolution ushered in by the American owners at the club  yet under his stewardship Roma made some shrewd signings, notably the young Brazilian Marquinhos who turned out to be a revelation in his debut Serie A season.

It remains to be seen whether Baldini will look to raid Serie A in his attempts to strengthen Andre Villas Boas’s side.
