Serie B logoFollowing the second legs of the Lega Pro playoff finals, Latina and Carpi will both be playing in Serie B next season.

Carpi overcame Lecce in one match, while Latina required extra time to defeat Pisa in the other.

Despite falling behind to a very early Mariano Bogliacino goal to level the tie on aggregate, the Biancorosso will make their debut in Serie B next season after Moroccan striker Mehdi Kabine restored parity with a quarter of an hour to go.

Lecce, despite leading the league for many weeks, didn’t have enough to score a second, and the side from Emilia-Romagna held on to secure promotion.

Latina, meanwhile, secured a goalless draw in their first leg, meaning their game against Pisa today was a straight shoot-out. Pisa went ahead early, before Jeffe equalised for the Leoni Neroblu.

The game remained level into extra time, when Pisa gave away a penalty, which Maximiliano Cejas converted. Salvatore Burrai added a late third, and Lazio-based Latina, too earned the right to play at Serie B level for the first time in their history.

Alongside today’s playoff winners, Trapani and Avellino secured promotion to the second tier by winning their respective divisions. Serie B will begin on August 24th next season, with Palermo the early favourites to bounce straight back.
