Former Napoli centre-back Salvatore Aronica has been told he can leave Palermo.
Despite the reports that 35-year-old wanted to captain the side during their battle for an immediate to return to Serie A he is apparently seen as surplus to requirements in Sicily.
According to Tuttomercatoweb incoming coach Gennaro Gattuso is likely to field a 4-2-3-1 formation and will therefore struggling to accommodate the veteran defender in his side.
However, while his Palermo career maybe over he could be set to remain in Serie A as promoted Livorno have made enquiries regarding Aronica’s availability.
Joining the Rosanero from Naples in January the Palermo-born defender made 15 Serie A appearances as the side failed to avoid relegation.
