Stefano Sorrentino PalermoPalermo have expressed their desire to keep starting goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino at the club next season.

The Sicilian side was relegated in this past campaign and are likely to see many of their stars part ways in order to play first division football, but Sorrentino is one player in particular that they aim to keep.

Speculation that the 34 year old could join Roma has been recently squashed by Palermo director Giorgio Perinetti, as he stated the club’s intent on keeping Sorrentino.

“We haven’t spoken to Roma. We have the option to sign him outright and we will be doing that,” Perinetti told Voce Giallorossa.

“He is a player who we want to count on in the new campaign, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

“The market has only just opened and we made an important investment in January. We’d like him to be a pillar of the side, but you can never say never.”

The goalkeeper only moved to the Rosanero back in January from Chievo, but despite Palermo’s desire to keep him there will surely be a slew of clubs looking to pull Sorrentino away.
