Fabrizio Miccoli PalermoPalermo have recently confirmed that Fabrizio Miccoli is no longer a part of the team and have wished him well for the future.

The 33-year-old striker’s contract with the newly relegated Serie B side will expire for good at the end of the month, as there are no plans of a renewal.

Club president Maurizio Zamparini spoke to Sky Sport Italia about the captain’s exit and conceded that he has high hopes for the veteran.

“Miccoli hasn’t been a Palermo player since the end of the season,” said the 72-year-old.

“I hope that he is able to find a Serie A club because that is the championship that he deserves to play in.”

Gennaro Gattuso, who was officially named as the newest Rosanero coach on Friday, weighed in on the situation between the club and his former Italy teammate.

“I spoke with Miccoli a few days ago,” said the former Milan man. “But I then spoke to the club who told me that they would not be renewing his contract.

“I would have had no problem with him, he has made history for this club, but we have to think about the future and the players at our disposal.”

Fabrizio Miccoli netted eight goals in 29 league appearances for the club this past season. He joined Palermo in 2007 and has a grand total of 74 goals in his 165 Serie A appearances for them.
