AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has praised Robinho’s contract extension as being like ‘a new signing’ while leaving the door open on a possible move for Keisuke Honda this summer.

The Brazilian signed an extension that will see him stay in Milan until 2016 despite heavy interest from Santos, and Galliani revealed his delight at the 29-year-old’s decision to stay with the Rossoneri.

“He is a great champion, he has lowered his wages,” Galliani told reporters at an event at Pietrasanta.

“He left Santos and has had a great career. He didn’t want to leave Milan, he only wanted to return to Santos. He said no to all the Brazilian clubs, he only wanted Santos and so that gave birth to a new three-year contract.

“Honda? The player will be free from his contract with CSKA Moscow on December 31 and could talk to other clubs which includes ours. I think he will arrive in January as they have asked for a lot of money to free him now.

“He is doing well there, he did well in the Super Cup and it is difficult it will happen now unless one of Honda’s sponsors finances it.

“We will think about it because the whole operation is costly but if outside forces were to intervene it could be anticipated.

Galliani also commented on the possible return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been linked with a move to Napoli as Edinson Cavani’s replacement.

“It is more than impossible because he has important wages and so for me he could never return.”
