Catania have completed the acquisition of Argentinian midfielder Federico Freire from Velez Sarsfield.
The 22-year-old had officially signed his contract with the Sicilian side last month but all of the official paperwork regarding his transfer was only completed on July 5th.
Freire began his professional career with Velez Sarsfield in 2011 and made only 11 league appearances for the Primera Division outfit before being allowed to leave on a Bosman this summer.
He will join a host of his compatriots at the Sicilian side, including striker Gonzalo Bergessio, midfielder Sergio Almiron, and attacker Maxi Lopez, who recently returned from a loan spell with Sampdoria.
Catania enjoyed a successful run in Serie A last season, with their eighth place finish the highest ever for the Elefanti since the early 1960’s and will be looking to build on that momentum as they head into the upcoming season.
