Luigi Di BiagioNew Italy Under 21 coach Gigi Di Biagio says he will introduce many new faces into the team as he takes over from Devis Mangia.

The former under-20 coach takes over Mangia after he announced that he will not be renewing his contract with the Azzurrini.

“I am proud that the Federation made this choice and thank them for this opportunity.” Di Biagio told reporters.

“I am ready to continue the work I started two years ago with the Under-20 side and want to give consistency to this project.

“I take on an Under-21 side that has to be reconstructed and there will be many new faces. I will do this keeping in mind the great work done before me by Mangia and Ciro Ferrara.

“Now a new adventure begins and we have to do it in the best possible way, above all continuing the strong path that took this team to excellent results and an extraordinary journey.”

Azzurrini lost in the finals of the UEFA under-21 European Championship to Spain which eventually proved to be Mangia’s last tournament.
