Lazio man Mauro Zarate has returned to his boyhood club Velez Sarsfield, which plays in Argentina’s Primera Division.
The 26-year-old had been frozen out at the Stadio Olimpico and made just one Serie A appearance last season.
“Zarate, the legend continues,” reads the headline in the official statement issued by the Argentine club.
“Welcome to your home, Mauro. We have been waiting for you.”
Velez Sarsfield is based in the Liniers neighborhood of Buenos Aires and were crowned champions of the league for the 2012-2013 season.
Zarate previously played for Velez from 2004 to 2007.
