Livorno striker reveals that he had a trial with Chelsea

Paulinho - LivornoLivorno’s leading striker Paulinho has revealed that he once had a trial with Premier League giants Chelsea.

In an interview with SkySport24, the 27-year old Brazilian was commenting on his playing experiences, when he revealed the news about the trial which  took place during the early years of Jose Mourinho’s first spell at the club.

“When I arrived in Italy I was impressed by the affection of the people,” he said.

“Chelsea? Yes, I had a trial with the reserve team, Mourinho complimented me but I was not taken on so I returned to Italy.”

Paulinho who has been at Livorno since 2005 also spoke about the clubs decision to loan him to Lega Pro side Sorrento in 2009.

“One of the most difficult moments was when I left Serie A to play in Lega Pro for Sorrento, it was hard being away from home, but I found the right environment and  I was reborn.”

Paulinho also discussed the death of former team-mate Pier Mario Morosini.

“The tragedy of Morosini was a very difficult moment, I knew him a little but it made me reflect on the fact that football is not everything in life.”

Finally, Paulinho concluded the interview by talking about Livorno’s chances in the upcoming Serie A season.

“Now that we are in Serie A we will play our cards to attain salvation.”
