Francesco Lodi has expressed his delight follwing his move to Genoa from fellow Serie A club Catania.
The 29-year old midfielder caught the eye with his performances for the Elefanti and had also been linked with a move to AC Milan.
“I must thank President Enrico Preziosi for giving me this opportunity,” he told the press.
“I can happily play alongside Matuzalem, as at Catania I shared the midfield with Sergio Almiron in a similar role.
“In any case, it will be down to coach Fabio Liverani to decide how and where I play.”
Lodi also talked about his pride at receiving the No 10 jersey.
“This is a ‘heavy’ number and an important shirt, but I will wear it with pride. Being Neapolitan I think of Diego Maradona as the quintessential 10, but there are also players like Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero who made history.
“I know that I am not on their level and I also play in a different role.”
