Mattia Perin PescaraGoalkeeper Mattia Perin is looking to secure himself a starting position in the Genoa squad this upcoming season, and even has hopes of appearing for Italy in the World Cup next year.

The 20-year-old had an impressive run while on loan with Pescara during the 2012-13 campaign, but is now looking avoid another loan deal in order to prove himself with the Rossoblu, even if it means competing with current starting keeper Sebastien Frey for a spot in the line-up.

Matteo Roggi, the player’s agent, met with the Grifone executives this week and spoke to TuttoMercatoWeb.com about his client’s possible future with the club.

“We took stock of the situation, he will begin pre-season with Genoa and then we will see what happens,” he said.

“In front of him is Frey, but he will go there prepared to gamble. He could win the position because for me he has all the qualities and the right determination.

“The field will do his talking. He is convinced he can move ahead of Frey for the position, he is working well to become the starter.

“If it does not happen then he will learn from a player like Frey.”

The agent then revealed that he believes the Italy Under-21 international has enough talent to make the cut into Cesare Prandelli’s Azzurri squad for the World Cup next year in Brazil.

“I hope he can [get into the team], although the competition is huge. He has the advantage of being a natural talent, hard working as well, and he has a chance to win back a place.

“With a bit of presumption I will say that he should aim to do well to get into the group for Brazil.

“Some may claim that is an exaggeration, but I know the boy well.”
