Portanova - GenoaGenoa defender Daniele Portanova has hinted that he is open to becoming the next captain of the Grifone.

The recent retirement of former captain Marco Rossi, who had played with the Grifone since 2003 and has now become a director at the club, has left the position open.

With a successor yet to be decided, Portanova spoke to Sky Sports about his love for the Rossoblu shirt and his willingness to take over from Rossi.

“For me, it’s an honour to wear this shirt,” said the 34-year-old.

“If I had the chance to wear the captain’s armband I would honour that too.

“It would be very rewarding to become the captain after Rossi. The priority is to honour these colours and make our fans happy.”

Daniele Portanova first played for Genoa during the 1998-99 season and made his return to the club earlier this year during the January transfer window. He scored one goal in his 14 appearances for the club in the second half of the 2012-13 season.
