Gianluca Pegolo SienaSiena have confirmed that first-team goalkeeper Gianluca Pegolo is likely on his way to free spending Ligue 1 side Monaco.

The Tuscan side will spend the upcoming season in Serie B and will be hard pressed to keep the shot stopper at the club after an impressive campaign last year.

“The transfer talks are close to completion,” Stefano Antonelli, the club’s sporting director, told Sport Italia.

“I think it will be done by the end of the week.”

Pegolo has less than a year left on his current agreement with Siena.

The goalkeeper turned out for Siena 61 times during his tenure at the club and has formerly appeared for Parma, Mantova, Verona and Fiorenzuola.

Newly promoted Monaco have seen a flurry of transfer activity this summer with players such as Ricardo Carvalho, James Rodriguez, Eric Abidal and Falcao having been brought in by the Rouge et Blanc.
