Hellas Verona president Maurizio Setti has spoken of his confidence that new signing Luca Toni will be an improvement to the squad.
The 36-year-old striker signed a one-year contract with the newly-promoted club on Friday.
“We’re very happy about this piece of business. Toni is a guarantee, not a gamble,” Setti said to Radio Sportiva.
“We chose him not only for his qualities as a footballer, but also as a man who will be good in the dressing room because he has the desire and the experience to lead his teammates even in difficult times.”
Setti commented on the role of Verona striker Daniele Cacia, whose 24 goals played a big role in the Gialloblu’s promotion from Serie B, in relation to Toni’s arrival.
“Daniele was instrumental last season, but in Serie A he will have to fight [for his place] like everyone. Toni’s arrival increases the healthy competition in the group.”
